Honest

Is the Las Vegas zipline worth it? The unflattering arithmetic

Forty dollars for thirty-five to forty-five seconds is about fifty-three dollars a minute, roughly eighty times the per-minute cost of the wheel it lands under. That is the number, it does not improve on inspection, and there is still a case for doing it.

Two riders side by side on the zipline above the promenade

Quick answer

The short answer. Worth it once, at dusk, if your evening was already going to be on The LINQ Promenade. Not worth crossing the city for, not worth doing twice, and not worth it at all if what you actually want is the long face-down ride — that is downtown and it is a better ride for nine dollars more.

The case against

Everything wrong with it, stated plainly

Five real objections, and they are all true.

It is very short. Under a minute. Whatever you are picturing, halve it, then halve it again.

It is expensive for what it is. Fifty-three dollars a minute is the worst rate of anything on this site by a wide margin.

It is not the ride people picture. Seated and facing forward, not face down. If the image in your head is arms-out flying, this is not it.

It is beaten on its own terms fifteen minutes away. The Zoomline downtown is 1,750 feet from eleven storeys, face down, for nine dollars more.

The photographs are an upsell and the price is not published until you are standing at the counter having just landed.

The case for

Why we would still do it

Once, at dusk, if you are already on the promenade.

There is exactly one of them. No other zip line runs on the Las Vegas Strip. Scarcity is not usually an argument, but here the alternative is not a cheaper version, it is a different part of town.

Ten lines fire at once. A family of four crosses the promenade together. Nowhere else in this city sells that.

The lift is underrated. A glass lift up 114 feet with the Strip opening behind you is genuinely the best view of the evening and it is included in the ticket.

It lands where you were going. The base of the High Roller, at the end of a street full of restaurants. There is no dead time, no transfer and no wasted evening.

Forty dollars is a drink and a half here. That is the real comparison in Las Vegas, and against it a ride over the promenade at dusk is not extravagant.

Who should skip it

Four honest disqualifications

  • Anyone who wants a real zipline

Go downtown to the Zoomline, or wait until you are somewhere with a canyon.

  • Anyone crossing town for it

It is not worth a taxi from Summerlin. It is worth a two-minute walk from where you already were.

  • Anyone counting minutes per dollar

A day in Antelope Canyon is fifteen hours for four times the price, which is three hundred times better value per minute.

  • Anyone hoping to be frightened

The SkyJump is at $136 and it will do what you are asking for.

Common questions

Is it worth it, answered

Is the Fly LINQ zipline worth it?

Once, at dusk, if your evening is already on The LINQ Promenade. It is about fifty-three dollars a minute, which is the worst rate in this city, and it is the only zip line on the Strip.

Is the Las Vegas zipline too short?

Thirty-five to forty-five seconds of flight, published by the operator. Most people who rate it poorly say exactly this.

Should I do Fly LINQ or SlotZilla?

SlotZilla’s Zoomline is longer, higher and face down for nine dollars more, but it is downtown. FLY LINQ is on the Strip and launches your whole group together.

Is a day trip better value than the zipline?

By every measure except one. Fifteen hours in Antelope Canyon against forty-five seconds on the promenade. The exception is that no day trip puts you above the Strip.
